George Runs 4th in 400m to Lead Cheetahs

Nathan George ran an inspired race at the Canadian Championships to narrowly miss his first Senior National Medal. George finished 4th in a time of 47.17 in extremely windy conditions. Earlier in the day, George finished 9th overall in the 200m. James Linde finished 10th overall in the 200m but was the victim of terrible wind conditions. His wind was a negative 5.9 metres/second which was more than 3 metres/second worse then the other two semi-finals. He would have certainly qualified for the final if he had equivalent wind conditions. Raquel Tjernagel ran her second best time of the season to finish an excellent 6th place in the 400m in her first Senior Nationals competition. Tjernagel also qualified for the 200m final on Sunday with the 4th fastest qualifier.

The schedule and competition can be viewed live at AthleticsCanada.tv
  • Raquel Tjernagel races at 12:05pm BC time

George enters the final as the fourth fastest qualifier and Tjernagel enters the final with the fifth fastest qualifier. George and Tjernagel will also be competing in the 200m semi-finals on Saturday along with James Linde. Linde who was the second youngest competitor in the 100m finished sixth in his semi-final and 18th overall.

The schedule and competition can be viewed live at AthleticsCanada.tv
  • Raquel Tjernagel races at 12:35pm and 5:45pm BC time
  • Nathan George races at 12:50pm and 5:50pm BC time
  • James Linde races at 12:50pm BC time

Linde Qualifies for 100m Semi-Final at Canadian Championships

On Day One of the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, James Linde qualified for the 100m Semi-finals with a time of 10.62. Linde who has competed as a Coquitlam Cheetah since 2005 is also automatically qualified for the 200m Semi-final based on the 21.21 second time he ran in Kelowna at the Jack Brow Meet last weekend.

In addition to Linde, both Nathan George and Raquel Tjernagel will be competing on Friday. George enters the competition as the third ranked 400m runner and having placed 4th at last year's Canadian Championships. Tjernagel is ranked 3rd in both the 200m and 400m. This will be Tjernagel's first Senior Nationals as she attempts to qualify for Canada's 4x400m relay which will be running at the World Championships in Beijing, China in August.

Plan Ahead

Borrowing from our friend at Ocean's Athletics, here is a heads-up about some meets that take place out of town and where booking accommodations earlier than later may be a good idea.

BC Jamboree (midgets and older) Championships - Nanaimo - July 10,11, 12
Getting a room in Nanaimo can be challenging. Click here for suggestions for accommodations.

BC Junior Development (9-13) Championships - Kamloops - July 17,18,19
The Thompson River University Dorms are a good option to consider.
