Langley Pacific Meet Schedule Change

The final schedule has been posted for the Langley Pacific Meet this weekend. Please be sure to double check your athletes events prior to the weekend as some field events have been moved. Click here for details.

Athletes are also reminded that in general not all meet organizers send out notices about changes to meet schedules. So please be in the habit of checking the website of the organizing club for schedule updates prior to the meet. Also please remember that events are allowed to run 30 minutes earlier than scheduled, but many times run late. You will want to arrive well in advance of the posted schedule time (to permit for early start, marshaling or registration, and warm-up). You will have to keep tabs on how events are being run throughout the day.

Cheetah Uniform Update

The Cheetahs Executive has decided not to proceed with a follow-up order of uniform pieces this season. The production time frame quoted was longer than originally anticipated and delivery would not be in time for the final event of the season.  Further, since all athletes requesting a uniform have been provided with a new singlet (despite the ~40% increase in athletes this season), all who wish to represent the Cheetahs in competition are able to do so.

Additional uniform pieces will be ordered in advance of the 2017 season and will take into account the specific size shortages experienced this year.  There will be multiple uniform exchange/pick-up sessions scheduled next season, during which all athletes without the optimal sizes or new style of jacket and pants will be able to exchange. And as always, athletes who have outgrown their uniform will be able to exchange for larger sizes.

Linde Sprints to Double Gold at Western Washington Invitational

James Linde led the way at the Ralph Vernacchia Track & Field Meet at Civic Stadium in Bellingham, Washington on April 30 by winning the 100m and 200m sprints. Linde's time of 21.37 in the 200m was only 0.2 seconds short of his personal best and it was his best season opening time ever. Linde was chased to the finish line by his Cheetah teammates Nathan George and Nick Ayin who finished 2nd and 4th respectively. George had earlier won the 400m in a scintillating time of 46.9 matching his best time of 2015 which led to his National Team performance as the anchor runner for the Canadian Pan-Am Team in Toronto.

Cheetahs ran to five personal bests on the day. Josh Kozelj ran his third personal best of the season by running 4:10.65 in the 1500m, good for eleventh place. Hana Tyndall hurdled to a personal best in the 400m hurdles and David Pinsky ran a personal best in both the 100m and 200m. Justin Questroo improved his 800m time by over four seconds by running a 2:01.09.

Uniform Exchange and Sign-Out

The new Cheetah uniforms can be sized and signed out beginning this Thursday (April 21st) and continuing through the weeks of April 25th and May 2nd. Please read the following carefully so you know what night is scheduled for your athlete.

All Junior Development athletes will have the opportunity to sign out uniforms before the first event of the season – the Norwesters Elementaries meet May 7th and 8th.

As every athlete will get a new uniform this year, multiple evenings will be scheduled, differentiated by year of birth.

Returning athletes born in 2003 and 2004 may exchange their uniforms on Thursday April 21st from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. (Those arriving later in the evening can exchange uniforms by locating or contacting Lauren at 604-897-0543.)

The full schedule will be posted at the end of this week, and will include further exchanges for returning athletes through the week of April 25th and pick-ups for new athletes through the week of May 2nd. There will be numerous opportunities for exchange and pick-up with flexibility for multi-child families and for training start/end times. Should the scheduled dates and times not align with availability, contact Lauren to make alternate arrangements.

Please note that:
  • Uniform sign-out requires a previous or new $100 deposit (cheque or cash) per athlete, refundable upon returning the uniform.
  • Returning athletes are required to return their current uniform in order to sign out a new uniform.
  • Exchanges and pick-ups will occur in the equipment shed, located near the high jump and javelin area.
