Jaylah Dennis Leads Cheetahs with Record-Breaking Performance at Legion Nationals

Jaylah Dennis, representing Team BC, led a strong contingent of Coquitlam Cheetahs athletes at the Legion National Track and Field Championships this past weekend. Dennis won the U16 women's high jump with a personal best and new Championship Record of 1.87m. To put her performance into perspective, Jaylah's jump is the #1 U18 mark in the world this year and ranks her #2 on the all-time Canadian U18 list. Dennis also won a silver medal in the 100m with a time of 11.89 seconds, a bronze in the 200m in 24.50 seconds, and anchored the gold-medal winning 4x100m relay team to another Championship Record of 47.13 seconds.


Lorenzo Barillaro also reached the podium, securing a bronze medal in the U16 men's 300m with a time of 36.02 seconds. He added a 6th place finish in the 200m final (22.92s) and a 9th place finish in the high jump (1.68m). In the U16 women's 100m, Ellie Walton raced to a 5th place finish in the final with a time of 12.31 seconds.


David Puscasu posted a swift time of 10.95 seconds in the U18 men’s 100m. In other U18 events, Cassie Maltas ran a strong 400m time of 59.73 seconds, and Lillian Oliver-McLean competed hard in the 3000m, finishing in 11:10.91.
