Cheetahs Win 15 Medals at BC Provincial Championships

The Cheetahs ran, jumped and threw their way to 15 medals at the BC Track and Field Championships in Nanaimo this past weekend. The Cheetahs were led by Robin Rohu who won three medals with personal best performances in all of her events. She began her weekend with a bronze medal in the U20 100m hurdles and followed that up with a silver medal in the 400m hurdles and a victory in the long jump. Making her performances even more impressive is the fact she was not ranked in the top three of any of these events entering the weekend.

Also, winning multiple medals at the championships were Payton Young, Ella Madsen, Makenna Self and Delaney Self. Payton Young was second in the U18 discus with a best ever throw and also won the bronze medal in the shot put. Ella Madsen ran to victory in the U20 2000m steeplechase and was second in the 1500m. Ella will be heading to McMaster University this Fall on athletic scholarship.

Sisters Makenna and Delaney Self combined for four medals. Makenna won the U18 100m and was second in the 200m. Makenna will be representing Team Canada for the first time when she competes in Costa Rica at the U18 NACAC Championships July 22-24. Delaney won both the U18 100m hurdles and the high jump.

The remainder of the Cheetah medals were all won in the 400m. National team member Nathan George once again won the open provincial title and teammate Faizal Oladuntoye won the U20 event. Michela Beuthin earned her first provincial medal with a third place in the U18 category and Kalima Ngobi also earned a bronze medal in the U20 event. The Cheetahs next event will be the Canadian Championships which are taking place in Langley at the end of July.
